After 27 years Secrets is published! What a relief and a pleasure. And while I was at it, I also published the second novel in this trilogy, Wolf World. And while I was at that, the almost instantaneous decision came to also publish Finding A Partner: AND IT MAY BE YOU.

Amazing how freeing this feels. Scary. Requiring almost more nerve than I've got to essentially self-publish three books, two novels and a non-fiction, and all at the same time.

Following my essential philosophy "Live it yourself before you write about it," I wanted to experience print on demand publishing (P.O.D.). Ask me to share my talk, "The Pleasure, Pain and Profit of P.O.D. Publishing." Learn how, why, costs, details.

Kaua'i, my small gorgeous island-home continues as highly enjoyable. Me, who routinely killed all my plants by over or under watering them now has four happy blooming orchids. And volunteer an afternoon a week at the Botanical Gardens while visions of a coming novel set in old Hawaii dance in my head.

To catch up on my latest reading and projects be sure and read Finding A Partner: AND IT MAY BE YOU.

INSIGHT: It suddenly hit me that since depression looms now for any aware person (so very many truly terrible world situations make it easy to feel helpless) the wise person (women especially) will develop her own strategies. Here are some of mine:

TACTICS FOR TACKLING DEPRESSION.

  1. Walk. Move. Exercise. Lately I'm hoping out of bed and doing an immediate daily walk. A guaranteed great start for the day.
  2. Get outside. Get natural light each and every day. Don't burn, be safe, but do it.
  3. Take the supplements you need. Eat and drink right.
  4. A huge downer is counting on other people to do what they say they will, or always be nice people like you are. Give it up! Observe and when projects/life isn't working, devise other ways maybe even doing it yourself!?
  5. "No self-help without self-love," says author John Selby. What have you done nice for yourself today? What obstacle have you banished? What problem/concern have you reframed? If you need a treat, find one. If you need to work, do it. If you need more spirituality, read, look for it.
  6. In heading off depression it's important to have fun and not allow yourself to be overwhelmed.

These are the best of times and the worst of times. We must all be strong for each other. And for ourselves. I'll be traveling a lot in Florida in October meeting as many people as possible, giving talks and mini-workshops, attending events like the St. Pete Festival of Books. If you have an event you'd like me to attend, a book-signing, workshop or simply a group of friends contact me. Email me at jlordahl@mindspring.com is probably best. Or go to www.joannlordahl.com. Looking forward to seeing you.

Your support over the years is deeply appreciated. Thank you. Wishing you and yours the best of the best,

Aloha, Jo Ann
